The Irony Of Life Poem by nahreen rahman

The Irony Of Life

Rating: 5.0

There is a proverb, "Life is a bed of roses",
But roses have thorns,
We shed blood to walk on the bed of roses.
Life is about struggles,
It is about ups and downs,
It is about facing avalanches,
It is not about winning only,
But it is about failures.
Yet life demands a smile,
Despite challenges,
Despite hardships.
We yearn to scream,
We yearn to cry,
But there is no-one to hear,
No-one to give a shoulder.
We become alone admist the crowd,
We want to call out on people,
But our lips are locked,
With thoughts of fear what others will think.
We die everyday,
Yet all we hear,
"Divert your mind",
"Go out",
"All will be okay",
But nothing is ever okay.
With a tormented soul,
Disturbed body and mind,
And a heart pacing faster and faster,
We want to know,
When will it be okay?
We scream for help,
We beg for help,
We say, "I am not doing it on my own",
But yet there is no-one to help.
Everyone want us to smile,
Want us to be happy and cheerful,
But no-one to help us to achieve it.
When we are on death bed,
People sympathize,
And say, "sorry to hear",
And forget the next minute,
Without any guilt,
For stopping someone's ticking clock.
Life becomes normal,
Life does not stop for anyone,
And this is the irony of life.

It is a cruel and twisted irony that some of us face with horror or humor, everyone of us is screaming and we do it with smiles and poise. This hits close to life. this is a treasure that expresses the human condition.
