The Jump Poem by Lindy Jean Kleinhans

The Jump

By LJK

The jump, a leap of faith he said
My heart replies with all but dread
I'll do my best to make the jump
deep down my courage will take the bump

He smiles and he's excited so
I fear I'll face my biggest foe
This man I won't let down, I'll try
To make the jump even if I cry

The sound of silence in my ears
As I took to death and face my fears
The morning sun shone upon my brow
How I'll jump, I don't know how

My turn indeed, my heart changed speed
My mouth is dry, that was no lie
As I stood upon the edge of doom
My head and body numb with gloom

There was no way out. I heard him cheer
He says I can do it, he is always near
The countdown-spinning in my mind
With the sound of "One! " I left my soul behind

Gravity is a piece of shit
The heaviness of cold and air I hit
Freefalling with nothing but my faith
My body heavy, awaiting scathe

Breathe! ! ! Breathe! ! ! Was the only thought
As my whole life flashed with the bungee cord
And as the recoil bumped me up once more
This day was anything but a bore
