The Key Poem by Aimee Nell

The Key

Look at me.
I see a light in your eye.
Do you see the light in mine?
Do you see how much I care?
-
Take your hand off that gun.
Now place it over my heart.
I swear, I don't know why, but you own a part of it.
Do you feel its rhythm?
All hearts beat together but I can see your heart is suffocating.
Clenched by all the people who have hurt you.
But you're alive.
Your heart keeps beating.
All hearts' rhythm is the same.
So match yours to mine,
And let it be free.
-
I'm here for good,
So stop pushing me away.
You said I had a door.
Now show me how to find the key.
You said it was a sacrifice.
But I'm still waiting at your door.
I'm committed.
I'll do anything for you.
But I won't walk away.
I surrender.
I'm open to you.
I hope you know,
I would die before I hurt you.
So let me in, my friend.
