The Ladder Poem by Joseph Eli Atisu

The Ladder

I leaned a ladder to the wall
So I can climb it to the top
But before I start, I heard them call
'You'll not make it to the top'!
I ignored their call and gave a smile
To prove the naught of their empty spell
One, two, three, I start to climb
And then somehow, I slipped and fell
'We told you so' were their words
So great a fall, I felt the pain
Yet with a dream to go upward
I dusted myself and tried again
One, two, three, I go again
Hands by the sides, eyes on the top
Slow and painful, I ignored the pain
Before I knew I was at the top!
I turned and looked down the ground
A bunch of lossers staring at me
I heard some applaud from the crowd
With some wishing to be me!
