The Market Girl I Saw Poem by Oko Emmanuel Agi

The Market Girl I Saw

Dearest,
My heart was touched, even without you cutting through my chest
I heard you were coming towards me, but still I stayed
Until you came and went on your kneels and you begged

"please uncle, I need money for surgery"
With such a swollen jaw, I'm scared it might burst because of the tension
My eyes became cloudy, tears were about to rain
I looked around me and they was nothing I could have done to ease your pains

So I turned my face like I didn't care
Of what essence is it to only think of doing good and yet be unable to put them into actions?

Dearest, you've met someone with a good heartbut without a good act,
I pray you meet someone with both a good heart and a good act to ease your pains.
