Upon the blue body of the night,
I listen to the single heartbeat of the galaxies.
And within the moisture of the clay,
I search for the fragrance of my very first prostration.
O Source of all sources!
When You, in the silent valleys of eternity,
lit the lamp of Alast — Am I not your Lord? —
it was You who, through my trembling voice,
whispered Balā — Yes, You are!
Since then, an ocean has been locked within me,
echoing only the resonance of Your Voice:
every wave is Yours, every drop is You — You alone.
I have witnessed it:
where time holds its breath,
nebulae revolve around the radiant core,
as a dervish in measured orbit
whirls around the immaculate, transcendent Lord.
And here —
every unpaved alley of the earth, every drenched field,
every laborer's palm, every child's laughter —
is but Your manifestation, Your very Name.
From the horizons of the heavens to the deepest edges of the earth,
there is only the shoreless river of Your Light.
Even every speck of dust upon the ground
is drenched and nourished by Your illumination.
Multiplicity is but an illusion —
for every other is Your counterpart,
and every distance is but a veil drawn over Your closeness.
You have granted me that rare vision:
to behold You in everything —
at the edge of a black hole, in the layered galaxies of stars —
each one reflecting the absolute affirmation of Your existence.
And the falling of rain upon the mountain's chest
is the descent of Your divine command.
Then, when my soul stands at the ultimate edge of time,
with absolute wonderment, I say only this —
You are the First, You are the Last,
You are the Manifest, You are the Hidden.
And whatever exists besides You
is but a fading dream, forgetting its own being
within the turning of Your breath.
