The One
There is someone for everyone
A time and place for everything
Inevitably out of many, one
For you I would do anything
I searched for you
before I knew your name,
finding fragments of you
in sunsets that lingered too long,
in songs that refused to end,
in dreams that remembered
what waking could not.
Some hearts are written in pencil,
erased by the slightest storm.
Yours was carved into eternity,
Time became a patient sculptor,
carving away every hand
that was never meant to hold mine,
every goodbye
that disguised itself as loss,
only to reveal
an empty space shaped like you.
If you are the one,
there will be no need
to force rivers uphill,
no need to convince the stars
to remain in the sky.
What belongs together
moves with the quiet certainty
of dawn meeting morning.
I've mistaken echoes for your voice,
mirages for your eyes,
and strangers for familiar souls.
Still, each disappointment
was nothing more than life
removing another mask
until only truth remained.
When the hour arrives,
there will be no spectacle,
no heavens splitting apart.
Only two lives,
long prepared by separate roads,
meeting with the quiet certainty
of rivers returning to the sea.
Then I will understand
why every closed door
guarded a better entrance,
why every goodbye
was simply destiny
protecting our hello.
And if forever
is measured by moments,
then let my first forever
be the instant
I look into your eyes
and realize...
Out of billions,
through every lifetime,
it was always
you.
