The One Who Did Everything Poem by Shelby Barker

The One Who Did Everything

I’m going to look in the mirror and call my reflection Ghost
drifting to the abstract I see right through me
Less human means less prejudice
and I’ll find tender bliss, just so
With no definite right mind

I’m going to close my eyes and call it Heaven
and dance atop my dense worries like seizures
as a child I’ll talk with imaginary deities,
execute the non-believers
and smirk in my sleep

I’m going to say hello to you and call it Love
For all things are tangible in its grasp
and time spent lonely is just a void
that leaves you empty-handed;
I have no better than such nothings

I’m going to color carpet and call it Artwork
and rubicund veins will spell my name
in what makes me small
dots and scabs will prove I’m mad
but they’re proof of my existence

I’m going to sit inside this hole and call it Home
because what’s left is almost gone
My heart is feeble and my tears are many
but don’t you miss me
in the world of insignificant living
