Stepped out of the ocean
with the most beautiful pearl
shining bright and white
rolling on my palm
Unexpected and unnecessary
truly too pretty
a pearl that the ocean gave me
I didn't comprehend why
Accepting, I reached the shore
full of hopes and dreams
but a wave rushed up
following in a chase
Felt like I stole — was it forbidden?
something that wasn't mine
something I considered a gift
I loved and wanted to cherish
My heart ached in desire
as the soft, slippery surface
rolled right back to the ocean
with the wave that disappeared
I look back and realize
in the millions of shiny pearls
mine will stay forever blended
if only it was ever mine
