The Prize Poem by Mary Champion

The Prize

She couldn't believe it when they called,
the realisation that she'd won a prize.
She just stood there completely enthralled -
The light of euphoria shone in her eyes.

A free trip to the sea had been planned -
two weeks exploring the South Devon Coast.
Surely some bounteous fate had a hand -
a five star hotel would be acting as host!

She gave thanks to some vague higher power -
one that never took her side before.
But right then, in that glorious hour,
it felt far too real to ignore.
