The Rain Commandments Poem by Nkwachukwu Ogbuagu

The Rain Commandments

You shall not speak to lightning
As if he were your mate

You shall count your fingers, beginning from
One rainy day to the last

Your bosom shall be cleansed
Before the first rain

If you peep through the door of rain
You shall behold a filament of water

Think not of the Jurassic Age
When it rains

Do not swear between the first
And the last thunder

Do not make drums
In rains

And thou shall not wear festal garments
In rain,
Or a breath of vinegar
Or a hat of hate
Or a girdle of slavery
Or a loincloth of lewdness....

Let Rain decide for itself.
Only abide by its regimen.
