The Sacrifice Of Yeasts Poem by Zachary Huang

The Sacrifice Of Yeasts

The sacrifice of yeasts

By Zachary Huang

quietly in water you reside
absorbing the sugar in the honey
bubbling out carbon dioxide

eventually, you will die
because in the mead
the alcohol concentration is too high

six months
it must be like six centuries
of suffering to you
what a slow way of dying

finally in the mead
I searched in the dark hours
that hint of honey
the sweetness and remnants of flowers

of course, I'm also quite reasonable
after becoming a bit light-headed
I know this honey wine
was not only the hard work of bees

I also vaguely know
that you, to make these ethanol
made the noblest sacrifice of all

Sept 8,2020.
