The Same War Poem by Jorge Arturo Valles Anguiano

The Same War

I can hear their blades in the castle,
I can hear the screaming of the plebeians,
I can hear the suffering and feel it,
I can see the blood in the floor,
I can see what this war does...,
a fight
without a purpose of finding peace,
and I can see the enemies of my emperor,
I see their blades full of blood
an innocent blood,
and now it's my turn to join them.

I can hear the cannons firing at the port,
I can see how the people try to run,
I can hear them screaming and asking for help,
a land full of sinners is being attacked
by more sinners,
those parties at the tavern ended,
the people laughing are dead,
and I have the same destiny.

I hear gunshots,
I hear how people are being taken,
not rescued,
now they are hostages of soldiers
who fight for their country,
not for humanity,
because 'patriotism means more than humanism',
each gunshot means a kill,
it means that a war is still going on,
and death will stop
until there's no sign of life,
because in a war there's no mercy.

And years pass by,
and wars keep destroying us,
and wars keep taking what things from us,
we are all humans divided in territories,
divided in countries,
divided in continents...,
divided with conflicts.
