The Secret Wedding Poem by Jonathan H. Scott

The Secret Wedding

So secret and quiet away to the wood
‘neath the stars that shine bright in the sky—
There, promised together, as only they could,
To be true to their Love ‘til they die.

"No other, forever, " he pledged with his vow;
Then, to him she swore likewise her troth.
Should ever they part, he would reach her somehow—
And, the two bound their hands with a cloth.

Then, deeper he carried her into the wood
To the split in the rock near the stream.
‘twas never such beauty— the trees ‘round them stood—
Through the night as if all in a dream.

The forest was still, and all creatures held thrall
As the lovers loved in the moon's light.
The heavens above bear true witness to all;
Not a thing goes unseen in the night.

So secret and quiet away to the wood
‘neath the stars that shine bright in the sky—
There, promised together, as only they could,
To be true to their Love ‘til they die.
