The Silence Between Me Poem by Vanessa Dizon Alvarez

The Silence Between Me

I walk alone through midnight rain,
A symphony of soft refrain.
My music hums, the shadows sigh—
The world is still, and so am I.

I crave the hush, the empty room,
The candle's flicker in the gloom.
I dance with ghosts of quiet grace,
No need for masks upon my face.

Yet silence grows with sharpened teeth,
It wraps around like thorned wreath.
Too long alone, the thoughts invade—
A gentle joy begins to fade.

The mirror speaks in voices low,
Of things I fear, of truths I know.
The peace I sought becomes a snare—
A throne of ice, a vacant stare.

I love the dark, the calm, the space,
But not the void that takes its place.
I like the quiet, soft and free—
But hate the ache of losing me.
