Met her in a lonely place,
glimpsed that smile upon her face
that stirred up memories of you.
Well, I sighed, I guess you'll do.
Met her at a lonely time,
couldn't get you off my mind.
I thought she'd help me carry on.
I didn't know where love had gone.

Met her on a lonely road
and thought I'd take the way she showed,
but I was getting nowhere fast,
then, lover, you came back at last.
Found you at a crazy time,
couldn't understand my mind.
Thought I'd found a game to play,
then you turned and walked away.
Now I know it's really true -
don't know what I'm gonna do.
You left me in a lonely place
to wipe the smile right off her face.

Yes her smile has faded now.
I have to get you back somehow.
I have to fill my empty soul,
find the love that made me whole.

Living in a lonely world,
got to prove that you're my girl.
Getting harder all the while
she had no right to wear that smile.
Trying hard to change my style,
find a way to make you smile.
Just a lost and lonely child,
couldn't let her keep that smile.
Know, now what I want and I'll
give it all to see you smile.
Give it all to see you smile,
only living for that smile.
She fooled me with a stolen smile.
