How shall I tell the tale of this heart's blazing fire?
Who knows its hidden depths—to whom can I tell?
Truth's radiance poured from all directions of Being—
A lamp ignited in my soul's core—to whom can I tell?
Before the Divine Countenance I bent in full surrender;
My heart's eye overflowed with light—to whom can I tell?
Beyond the body's fragile shell lie unseen dominions;
I heard them with the ear of spirit—to whom can I tell?
No uttered syllable, no sound—I heard the Eternal speak;
The secret of 'Be! ' stood revealed—to whom can I tell?
My Love is the Concealed, yet His glory fills creation;
This Layla-Majnun epic—to whom can I tell?
His Face appears in every place, each moment, every breath,
Yet veiled eyes fail to recognize—to whom can I tell?
No distance parts us, no path remains to traverse;
Only self-veil persists—to whom can I tell?
Why does the Ever-Near seem far to the bewilderèd heart?
This strange game of concealment—to whom can I tell?
He reigns enthroned within my breast, alone, O MyKoul—
First, Last, Manifest, Hidden—to whom can I tell?
He is the Veil, the Veil-Raiser, the Secret's Custodian;
This oneness mystery—to whom can I tell?
Be silent, heart. The One who hears is He who hides,
And He who hides already knows—to whom can I tell?
