The Sun Can't Keep A Secret Poem by Mark Nichols

The Sun Can't Keep A Secret

I lost my baby
In a game of 5-card draw
I lost my love
In a play I never saw
I left my dreams
In a hatbox by the door
And that's the last time
I'll see them any more

The sun can't keep a secret
Now everybody knows
The daylight brought my truth to light
I guess that's just the way it goes

I thought no one could see
The moon was covering me
The shadows turned their other cheek
'mums' the word
If you ask them they ain't heard

The night had been my veil
I thought no one knew of the sordid details
The sun can't keep a secret
And that's the reason I lost you

I thought no one could see
The moon was covering me
The sun can't keep a secret
And that's the reason I lost you
