The Sun Is Setting Poem by Michael William

The Sun Is Setting

i twist my hands around
each other
and look towards the ocean
it is calm today
and a tall girl i just met
is waving goodbye
from the beach i watch until
she turns and walks
into the sun

i sit barefoot on the patio
and think about
distance

i am moving slowing towards myth
feel myself becoming
more story than man

i drink whisky as the sun grows hotter
and watch a lizard dance over the cobblestones
from a nearby tree
comes the cry of a monkey
that makes me wonder if, like me,
he has just become aware
that the sun is setting
