The Ubuntu Walk Poem by Gabriel Eshun

The Ubuntu Walk

Nthu, nthu ne banwe (I am because you are)
A Bantu conception

Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly
Martin Luther King

Walking their heads have become a tonic responsibility
No so-imagined terra nullius they die to discover—
They only ponder thru parks with minds full of songs
Songs for heart of the planet to pump thru tubes deoxygenated
Songs for heart of the planet to mirror altruisms of vapours in skies
They walk their heads everyday, every night

Walking their heads have become a tonic responsibility
No assegai of misjudgements to pierce strides of their hopes
They only ponder thru parks sipping nectars for honey of seasons
As they walk their heads, their hearts dance to an ancestral drum
The tree that stands solo to storms, realise the folly bottom up”
They walk their heads everyday, every night
