The Velvet Rose Poem by Ali Adel

The Velvet Rose

One hundred feet under is where the seed lies,
but it shall never climb the ladder of soil
and see the glowing God above our heads
It's petals will not be privileged to inhale the cool air
or be blessed to taste the sweet rain in it's center
Thorns embellishing it's stem
will never sink into the leg of an innocent passerby...
unless...

The moon is in line with every planet in orbit
A meteor the size of an orange hits the center of the Earth,
causing a small bon fire,
which ultimately results in a mass marshmallow-roasting
The ozone molds itself into the shape of a heart
and the sun casts the most vivid sunset ever seen by human eyes.

Finally,
When everyone is brought together,
Roasting marshmallows, laughing, and bonding,
When the ozone proves it loves us,
When the sun rewards us by painting the sky with the most colorful hues,
When there is peace on Earth,
And when love is dancing through the atmosphere,
The velvet rose will muster up the courage,
To sprout its stem,
And grow..
