The Vice Poem by Matthew Densley

The Vice

Rating: 5.0

I hate to want
What I do not desire
But I can't help touching the flames of your fire

And I hate to yearn
What is bad for me
But from you spell, I can't be free

Fiend or friend
Foe or lover
It can't be both
It's one or other

The more I hate
The more I need
The more I need
The more I hate
It's now too late
My soul is blind
It seems my fate
Is in your bind
And that's unkind
But I'm to blame
You trapped my mind and heart the same

Although to me
You're often cruel
I follow you
Just like a fool

The little lamb you lead to slaughter
Pulling my heart strings tighter, tauter
In your water
You let me drift
Confettied heart of mine's your gift

A demonette
Bewitching me
From your spell
I can't be free

I'll never escape
I'm trapped in your grace
You are the vice
That holds me in place
