The Web Of Her Poem by Emmanuel Ayeni

The Web Of Her

Midnight finds me awake again,
Wondering if you stirred my sleep.
Strange, how your absence fills the room,
While silence guards the thoughts I keep.

Naughty, playful, nonchalant,
A fortress wrapped in mischief's guise.
'We can only be friends, ' you said;
I smiled, while my heart took sides.

Funny, how the playboy lost his footing,
How swiftly composure came undone.
An ant ensnared in silken threads,
By a web I never saw spun.

Your voice through wires, your face on screen,
Have made distance feel less kind.
I dread the day we meet, perhaps,
For joy may leave me wild and unrefined.

What sorcery is this chemistry,
That binds before it can be named?
And if this be a dream of you,
Let sleep forever keep me chained.
