The Wishbone Poem by Robert R. Railey

The Wishbone

The Wishbone

Time well spent on wishing for love and romance seems like time
Without-end at a glance
Though without dreams, our lives would be dreary, so we'll
Wish for happiness, but then-
She'll say one thing, and then reverse it, tomorrow's answers
Will just be more history!

Understanding fully, the female wile, requires a man of
Incredible guile!
She says she'll be happy, whenever she gets it, but then sad
When it's old for a while
She also says she'll glad if and when, you change into the man
Of her dreams

Today you're mine, but tomorrow who knows, pack up your
Bags and clothes?
Mondays are the Saturdays that she'll wish for, if only you're
There; is it fair?
If a wish for Christmas is too far to bear then we best enjoy today
Or we'll suffer tomorrow

She'll want nothing, until she gets it, that is, and then everything
Else instead
Wouldst thou wish for the serene white knight, only then
To wish for green?
Grant me my wishes to fulfill all dreams for only then can
I answer her schemes

For my wish for her would be the same if her wishes were like
The refrain-
No thoughts for others, just fulfill my demands, just make me
Happy, are her plans
My wish for her, and for me too, would be a lake full of wishes
Just waiting to come true
