The Years Now No Longer... Poem by Borys Oliynyk

The Years Now No Longer...

The years now no longer speed by
as wild horses swift run,
Like camels in sands of Morocco they wander at leisure…
More easy to catch sincere lying that here so abounds,
Much harder to take provocation's fair bait in least measure.

And soon you begin to judge ever swift second,
not time.
Analysis cold means that feelings in tight bonds
are driven…
Digressions from youth are more easy
to understand now,
Forgiveness for them is much harder by far, if it's given.

Your eye takes small notice of first fascination
so fine -
Experienced eyes have learned silence
and see all the clearer…
And farther away
floats the cloudless beginning of youth,
Eternity's milepost
comes creeping from darkness much nearer.

Then snowdropp time joyful can never hold charms of days past,
From beauty, or kerchief, or scarf bright my head spins no longer…
More rare now the heart's dying beat from a first casual glance,
Demands in assessing the while cry out louder and stronger.

Ravines and harsh rocks you avoid with a step far more firm.
All movements and gestures and jokes grow more careful quite clearly…
While also the number of errors you make smooth decreases.
Though with increase tremendous they constantly cost you more darely!
