This One's For You Poem by bob barci

This One's For You

You came so suddenly
and now you're leaving.
Hey! Where you goin'?
Why you goin'?
You should stay for awhile longer.
I feel so down in the dumps
you've got to stay and pick me up.
What am I going to do?
I'm on that dark spiral path
that I've been on a hundred times before.
Listen to the words I say
in this poem, my friend,
because this one's for you.
It's the only way
that I can tell you
what your friendship has been for me.
You're one of the few I've found
to be along the same path as me.
That confusing, spiral, path,
a never ending dirt path that leads to nowhere.
You're one of the few I've found
that I can honestly talk to,
just like that night you exposed yourself till 4.
I don't want to see what we've got come to an end.
I just hate to see a good friend go.
But, what kind of friend can I be if I hold you back?
Are you listening?
Are listening to me?
Listen carefully to this poem,
because this one's for you.
If I ever should feel like I'm falling through glass panes,
all I'll have to do is recall the times we had together.
All those nights at the bar.
All that food you threw at me.
Believe me, I know I'll have to smile,
and maybe, even to laugh.
Oh! The girls you tried to chase!
That cold Halloween night you ended up driving home.
But where are you now?
My laughter is dying and I may soon forget how.
I just want to thank you
for being part of my life
and for the chance to add you to my memories.
I won't soon forget you.
When it comes to the poems I write.
I just want you to know,
this one's for you.
