You took my hand and danced me through
so many possibilities
the winding lanes and vales of you
across the boards, beneath the trees
beside the lapping midnight seas
and all that we would never do
The hunger takes so long to quit
the spark of touch, the kiss of eyes
the smallest shapes on distant hills
the shipwreck of a love capsized
or vanishing without goodbye
I wish I could have told you this
I wasn't blind to all you had
but time is such a spilling thing
tomorrows flush away so fast
the Earth flies round the sun and spins
this web we find our shelter in
that ties us down and builds the past
But I'll be with you soon enough
without a word, without a glance
with all this longing overcome
without your hand for one last dance
as we cavort around the sun
amongst the carefree ash and dust
