Thunderbolts Poem by Mary Champion

Thunderbolts

Why does life let you down
just as the dawn is breaking,
when hope, at last, is waking
and happiness is found?

Why do the dark clouds form
in a blue translucent sky,
when you never thought you'd cry
or ever need to mourn?

But that's when fate will strike
the cruellest blows of all,
when the brutal axe will fall
on rich and poor alike.

Why does life break your heart,
just when you thought it mended,
believed the pain was ended?
It tears your dreams apart.
