Time Running Down Poem by William B. Deutscher

Time Running Down

The moment won't last:
Our future will fade
into a permanent past.
Such a bad end
to a very poor start!
Eternity leveled
to the beat of a heart.
Gratuitous, cruel
sucking breath.
Banality of fools,
ignominious death.
We all must die.
On the wind of a short
sad life,
our atoms will fly.
