To Be Me Or Not To Be Poem by Edward Hightower

To Be Me Or Not To Be

There's a person I think I have a chance
To be the guy she'd want her guy to be
If I did actually try and change myself
It may change the way she thinks of me

If I try to actually change who I am
Changing may prove to be too much
But I might be one she'd want to hold
And not one who's never felt her touch

She hasn't shown much interest in me
But I've wanted her more than I can say
And I've hoped each time that I saw her
That she couldn't help but look my way

Real love is felt when a man is himself
I know as I am is not who she'd choose
If I feel her embrace by not being me or
I never feel her touch, either way I lose
