i should like you to read aloud my poetry
though poems can't vouch for my love
because they are mere words

instead i shall bring myself to you
your choice whether i stay or go
no greater joy than to do as you bid

if you should ask me to stay
i'll not love you any more than i do now
for nothing can surpass perfection

send me away and i will love you none the less
from afar a moon reflecting your peculiar light
diminished untouching silent unseen
writing poems you'll never recite
