To Engwari Poem by Ndimancho T Nyowikeh

To Engwari

So, art thou happy now that I am in penury?
So, thy presence is naught but savagery?
Indeed, I have learnt the hardest way.
Right was Shakespeare when he penned:
"All that glitters is not gold".
Some are but the embellishment of yew berries.

Watch me, as this lad carves her path
To where her pop stands trial.
In all forgetfulness, I beseech and woo her further.
How the heyday came, clothed in pathetic fallacy.
Oh, how shortsighted was I, not to see this!
God, grant me an eye to decipher the next.
Cursed be the day I did glimpse thee.

So, Muse, permit me to halt here,
Lest my anguish not stain this oily ink.
Blend not my Cablegram with ambiguity.
Let what the heavens have spoken be so;
So, it is what it is.
That I may live, knowing this truth:
Vampires now walk in human shape.
