To Forget You Poem by Suki Nakamura

To Forget You

to forget you
i must try indulging to things that
must not remind me of you

since you are black
i must learn the intricacies
of all that is white
a white blanket
a white piece of paper
a white handkerchief

since you are kind
i must learn the importance
of cruelty
i must give up what
i have
everything that is black
and kind in me

i must deny myself
and move on with my life
just to forget you

i accept
a moment from now
that you are not
for me

let me try to win
this time
