I used to look to the sky and reach a hand
From petty earth and her boring land
And stretch and yearn to grasp the sun
It stretched out its rays with warm delight
And welcomed my touch into his light,
Beaming like a champion newly won.
I took his heat and wrapped it all around me
And feasted on his rays and let his light surround me.
And just as one thought all was done,
I brought his light down to petty earth
And brightened the streets with luscious mirth
So that the dawn of each day was something begun -
Something bright and worthwhile and sweet
Something to lay down at God’s very feet,
The light of the world worn in our life
Banning all of worry or bore or strife.
