To My Dad Poem by B. V. Dahlen

To My Dad

The days and weeks go spinning by,
And often I'll forget.
I always have so much to do,
Somewhere to be, and yet,

Sometimes at night when I'm at rest,
And thoughts are drifting past,
I seize on one I've overlooked,
When others have elapsed.

I'll take this time to tell you now
How very much I care.
I won't allow this hurried pace
To distract me. I'll declare

That as a Dad you've been the best
That anyone could own.
Your care and guidance nurtured me
'Til I was safely grown,

And any time I needed you
I knew that you were there
With loving eyes that watched my life
And guarded me with care.

Your life has been a beacon
In the darkest times I've known.
It's shining there before me.
I know I'm not alone.

You taught me truth and reverence.
You've taught me with your ways.
You gave me life and gave me love
Throughout all of my days.

And what in turn can I give you,
Except with all my heart
To say Dad, I love you so
With all those words impart.
