To My Firstborn Poem by cassidy Lovato

To My Firstborn

There was a time in my life
when everything felt uncertain.

I did not know who I was meant to be,
what kind of future I would build,
or whether I was strong enough
for the road ahead.

Then I had you.

And suddenly,
nothing was simple,
but everything had meaning.

I was scared in ways
I did not yet understand.
Carrying fears I could not name,
fighting battles inside myself
that I did not know had a name either.

There was so much uncertainty.

But then there was you.

Your tiny hands,
your quiet breaths,
the way your whole existence
asked me to rise.

And I did.

Not perfectly.
Not without mistakes.
Not without moments
I wish I could rewrite.

But always with one promise
anchored in me,

to do my best by you.

As you grew,
I watched your character unfold
like sunlight across a room.

You gave me strength
I did not know I had.
You gave me purpose
when I needed it most.

You made me want
to become better,
not just for you,
but because of you.

And still, every day,
you continue to.

I see so much in you.

Brightness.
Intelligence.
Talent.
A depth that reaches farther
than most people realize.

I see the way you carry things
you should never have to carry.

The silences that settle
when your heart is heavier
than your words can explain.

And if I could,
I would take every ounce
of that weight from you.

I would lift it
the way you once lifted me
without even knowing.

Because that is what you have done.

You saved me
in ways I may never fully explain.

And for that,
for you,
I will spend my life
showing up.

Through every tear,
every struggle,
every triumph,
every moment you need me,
and even the ones you don't think you do.

I will be there.

Because I am yours.

And you are my son,
my firstborn,
the one who changed
the direction of my life
simply by being in it.

You do not need to be perfect.

You never have.

You only need to be yourself.

That has always been
more than enough.

And I will always stand beside you
as you become
the very best version
of who you are meant to be.

With all the love a heart can hold,
Mom
