To My Mother Poem by Paula Robinson

To My Mother

Some say wedded institution is the best they’ve ever known
And nothing does quite better the setting up of home
Children’s eyes can never see the meaning of it all
For it is the little ones who take the hardest of the fall

A no win situation, it’s the choosing of the path
Whichever way the turning there will always be the wrath
No action without consequence, no choosing without fears
For what you choose today will reflect throughout the years

Sometimes we’re like strangers, just related by our blood
Circumstances made it; I’d change it if I could
Nobody is at fault; No one holds the title of blame
I’m sure in conversation; you would say you feel the same

Just know that I do love you, it’s always been that way
Even though our swords will cross, I’m sure that still, one day
All will be forgiven and forgotten and undone
And when that day presents itself, you’ll still be my Mum
