To Whom It May Concern Poem by Rob Francis Parsons

To Whom It May Concern

Darkness came for me when I was five
Kept me from looking at any light
Kept me living like this my whole life
All this time shadow people showed me
There is no Heaven, there is no Hell
There is only suffering, sometimes there is survival
On every death bed
They say, 'you do not need to worry now'

Hello darkness, dearest captor,
My old friend
Is it finally going to be the end?
Will you lift your shadow people from my eyes?
Will you let me see a glimmer of any light?
Darkness asked me if I was scared?
I said no, because I did not care
My hands down and by my side
In silence
Darkness said to me
To whom it may concern
In this life you have paid your depts
Enjoy the silence
You may enjoy your next
Swallow down all this dust
There are no wings nor halo's
For there is no sky and there is no ground
Just darkness to freely roam around
You have lived in darkness your whole life
All this time with no light
There is no need to see it now
I give you a gift of silence
The shadow people will take you now
Go in peace
You do not need to worry now
Do you have any last words to tell me
If you do, speak them now
To whom it may concern
After a time of screaming in darkness
there are only lessons
After time there is silence
A place where I hope only to hear echoes
