Today Poem by Elaine Equi

Today

Brighter light
Lighter shadows

Cherry-blossom-afros
on the trees

Ease
of movement

in silky
butterscotch air

Coats open -

elbows and bare arms
appear

Finally, the body
untenses
after winter

Bird song
pours la la la

between the words
and buildings
