I met you last night and I cannot believe -
believe - that the meeting was merely a dream.
The heart and the mind may conspire to deceive,
so events are rarely as real as they seem.
Your kiss was as sweet as the kiss I recall -
the taste of the very first kiss that we shared.
For how many years have I been in thrall
to the pleasure we knew in times when we dared?
When we dared to succumb to the passion
disregarding the rules - the right and the wrong,
until convention insisted, we ration
this love that has haunted us both for so long.
If I had my way, then my love, I would ‘bide
in eternity dreaming with you by my side.
