Towards You Poem by Manabendra Lal Bhuyan

Towards You

I waited for the sun to set.
I let all the birds move into their nest.
As the darkness covered the sky,
I took myself for a walk in the wild.

The moon and the breeze had a fight,
Who could shed the tenderest light?
The moon lighted up the woods, the might of the hills
While the breeze carried the scent of still...
The air was empty. The emptiness was cold.
I gazed upon the darkness at the fold.
The Darkness pressed, scaring me to the bone.
It just happened to feel a little alone.

I felt a warmth making its way through my skin
Stirring up my blood, my heart wanted to pace.
I could not realize then; it was your embrace.

I could breathe your breath,
perhaps it was mine, in your scent.
I could feel your voice in my head
Struggled to decide whether it was vehement or reticent.

"You keep thinking you're moving toward me.
You don't see. I've been walking with you all along."
The air filled with a whispered soliloquy,
Perhaps it was mine, or maybe I was not alone.

I was about to give in to your clasp,
I heard your steps run away from me.
You went afar, hid behind my grasp.
Yet you kept your gaze stuck on me.

You stood where the sky folded into itself,
hiding your eyes behind distance.
Thus, I realized, my every step of life,
for you, carefully chosen with a quiet insistence.

Yet the glimpses of the beauty you kept bringing,
In moments, I kept feeling the warm caresses of fear
for how conveniently, I could have stayed in,
Enveloped within the hold of the eternal Dear.

I should realize, the ultimate is within the arms of You.
Life seems to be a lie, yet life would never want to rush to You.
Yet the very Destiny of life is undeniably You,
Unfortunate, I would be to not step but fall into You.

With the crackle of breaking branches, crunching of leaves...
The forest started voicing louder than your whispers.
The wiser decision would be to turn around and leave...
As the howl of wolves and rattling of snakes kept growing crisper.

Wandering off, in the dark, barefoot, might prove to be a mistake,
For living life is not only about you. It carries a higher stake.
