True Poem by ...C Cleverly

True

your sword seeks an enemy
rest by this tree instead
for your enemy
if you but knew lives inside your head

you’ve fallen down and your crown
like friends is lost and gone
but that crown
if you but knew was ne’er as gold as sun

your shield fields another’s blow
howls with ice and sleet
but that blow
if you but knew blew you to your feet

you’re naked now and all alone
nothing with nought but you
and that alone
if you but knew was all that was ever true
