I don't mean to seem ungrateful
With my independent ways
But I won't be home forever
I'll be on my own someday

And though I know you love me
As much as I love you
I'll have to run my own life
The best that I can do

Since I was just a toddler
You've showed me right from wrong
You've guided and encouraged me
And you've helped me to be strong

I may not always listen
But you can bet I hear
It isn't true that everything
Goes out my other ear!

And usually you are right too!
I find out all the time
So please try not to worry
You've raised me up just fine!
