Two Brothers Poem by Seph Dent

Two Brothers

Part 1 - Two Brothers

Legends told
Of one child alone
But two brothers were born
Into this world unknown

A mysterious force
It is a miracle
Two twin brothers
Who look identical

One named Lee
And the other Neil
Different in how
They think and feel

Right from the start
Their minds torn apart
As they both followed
What was in their heart

Part 2 - Darkness

I sit alone in my peaceful home
This luxurious world of mine
Not much happens on my quiet journey
But my life and I are just fine

I have acquired a life of comfort
This is all I look for
I'm quite content not leaving my haven
I choose not to open the door

Part 3 - Light

I set out to live my life
To make the most of my time on this Earth
With no apprehension, I try new things
And give purpose and worth to my birth

I scale Mount Everest, I run with the bulls
I do the death drop in Zambia
I jump out of planes and swim with sharks
My happiness is so clear

Part 4 - The Battle

Lee screamed his loudest
But his argument fell on deaf ears
His words of truth ignored
They battled on for years

You've created your own prison
With chains of fright and cowardice
Restricted by doubt, you can't get out
But the monotony can't be nice

Your home is your world
While the world is my home
You remain trapped inside your cage
While I am free to roam

People live and people die
You only have so much time
Make the most of every moment
To not do so would be a crime

I live my life to the fullest
The beauty of my world is enticing
Your way of life will not suffice
How you live is most surprising

A life filled with adventure
With experience and action
To live with pure freedom
This I see as life's main attraction

Your life needs a new design
You must deviate from the line
I implore you, change your ways
Live in a way that's similar to mine

That timid voice inside your head
It persuades you not to take chances
Ignore it a take a leap of faith
Because the end of your life advances

Part 5 - Life

What Lee proposed to his brother Neil
Could not overcome his fears
Unable to convince his counterpart
His eyes were filled with tears

With no more to say
I have in mind just one intention
To live alone in a place of perfect peace
I'm off on a journey of my own invention

I have discovered heaven on Earth
A place untouched by civilization
I now live in nature, with only the animals and the land
Pure happiness, freedom and relaxation

The wonder of my newfound world
Its beauty is indescribable
I will stay here forever until I die
To ever leave is most undesirable

I am still quite young
But I have just run out of food
And I will soon die of starvation
As I forever remain in my place of solitude

My adventure has come to an end
In my whole life I have not one regret
I will die the happiest man on Earth
With a million memories I'll never forget

I write this note to my brother
As I take my final breath
I love my brother as I love myself
I empty my mind and smile as I greet death

Part 6 - Death

Neil grew old and weary
And he was told about Lee's mortality
He is handed a note written decades ago
Which finally opens his eyes to reality

Reading the note I finally understand
I can see a new prophecy
My only chance of freedom
And how my brother came to be

I stare up at the constellations
Horoligium: The only one I can find
But its fading away so fast
And I am quickly losing my mind

And with only a few years left
I sit alone in sadness
I now know how much of my life was wasted
And so my mind spirals into madness

A life of nothingness
There was no thrill or hint of a smile
It was the greatest mistake
My heart turns cold as I think for a while

An infinite number of regrets
The truth my brother spoke of finally appears
But it's much too late for me now
I sit and watch as death nears

Part 7 - A Second Chance

Neil survived another few years
Hoping for the prophecy to come true
He was told by his brother, Lee
That of him there were two

I was just about to die
When I discovered something previously unseen
It was beyond my wildest imagination
And I stepped inside the time machine

I travelled back to the very beginning
Born once again as my own brother
The time machine worked
And I was renamed Lee by my mother

And so it is now up to me
To uphold my family's name
And I must aim to convince
My brother Neil to do the same
