The first
Asked her mother
For permission
To step into the world
During a lull in blizzard season,
At night
When the streets were clear and white
And all traffic lights were frozen green.
The second
Escaped through a trap door
And tumbled into
The world with flames at her back
And the sun in her eyes,
As her mother burned with fever
On the hottest day
Of the hottest summer on record.
It's all in how you enter,
I'm convinced.
