Two Worlds - Blueprint Poem by Mary Champion

Two Worlds - Blueprint

Welcome to two worlds:

The Upper World

This is the ideal world of the deluded,
the world of positive thinkers - optimists,
where brutal hardship has rarely intruded -
the kind of world touted by populists.
Here the future is always predictable
and friction is notable for its absence,
air resistance is undetectable,
and quantum chaos has no existence.
You will never encounter sharp corners,
there are no minefields or hidden hitches,
change always brings progress and its authors
are loudly lauded for their growing riches.
All behaviour is perfectly rational -
this is the world as it is in theory.
All emotion is under perfect control
and nobody raises the 'What if? ' query.
This is the world where the wealth is hoarded,
so, this is the world where the power resides.
Dwellers in this world are amply rewarded,
privilege pampers and always provides.

This world rules - OK!

The Lower World

This is the realm of the world-weary peasant-
negative thinkers - a pessimist breed.
Predictions made here are often unpleasant,
here where invention is driven by need.
Here there is friction impeding all movement,
air is polluted and slows the world down.
The chaos of quantum has shown no improvement,
snags and sharp corners and minefields abound.
Change sometimes breaks things and progress may stall,
or go into reverse when Sod's law intervenes.
Reason is rationed and few heed its call,
emotions run wild for these folk aren't machines.
This is the real world, the world as we live it.
This is a place where you'll find little wealth,
so power is meagre, privation implicit.
This is a world full of fear and poor health.

So, what happens when two worlds collide?

Mayhem!

Impact is real so it shatters the real world.
It's knocked off its axis, the outcome is dire.
There's much less effect on the nebulous dream world,
they've still got enough of the things they require.
Their wealth, so obscene, will absorb most the impact,
the worst they will feel is some minor distress.
They'll plunder the real world to rebuild the abstract
then, start theorising their next bloody mess.
