Umbrellas Poem by Mary Champion

Umbrellas

Isn't it raining for you?
Did the clouds part and let the sun through
Over you?
Unlike the rest of the throng
You brought no umbrella along.
You're looking him straight in the eye,
Demanding that he paints you dry.
Parapluies are raised all around,
But, defiantly, you stand your ground.
He knows he has no chance at all
If a single stray raindrop should fall
Over you.
Did the clouds choke back tears, like they knew
There is nothing that he wouldn't do
To win you.
And modestly veiled, see you hold
A basket of secrets untold-
Pleasures you've promised to share
With the artist who's taking such care,
As he paints his Parisienne view;
Not one drop of rain shall accrue
Over you.
