Under the wings of awakened gazes—
the moment the eye opens,
on the shore of non-existence,
thousands of 'I's shatter and fall.
The first ray of consciousness,
the first touch of light—
all the moments that have passed
turn to ash of memory
and sleep beneath the floor of time;
some wrapped in mist,
some bound in space and time—
like old lint clinging
to the cloak of the soul—
simple, yet beyond price,
like hidden earthen vessels
in the valley of Kashmir.
As soon as the new vision comes,
every old wound changes its breath;
in the nameless void,
ecstasy descends
upon the restless soul.
This is the unending scene
of the veil being lifted from the self—
the never-ending leaf
of Kashf al-Mahjub—
the celebration of recovering the self,
new each time.
Thousands of parallel 'I's die within me daily;
daily, from non-existence,
a new birth of life's journey occurs;
each morning I raise myself
from my own ruins.
Now in these eyes
there is no reflection of any stranger,
nor in the mind
any fear that has passed;
nothing left to gain,
nothing left to save—
only a simple, silent yearning to be.
Whatever was, was from eternity;
whatever will be, is in eternity.
Past, present, future—
the sum of all becomes a single moment,
only under the wings
of these awakened gazes.
