Unhinged. Poem by cheryl winter

Unhinged.

Unhinged from birth
Or from the stress of life
Some human wrecks
Like shameless prostitutes
Lie naked..spread out upon the earth!
Some, like frogs, leap around
Looking for a meal...
Something to eat or quench their thirst!
Others jump around frantically
Looking for they know not what
Or where to find this elusive nothingness!
With minds unhinged
And eyes blinded by misery
These human wrecks
Cannot see the twists and bends of life!
Naked, helpless, rejected!
They move like shadows
Fearful and uncertain of the future!
Suddenly,
Driven by a compelling madness
Stirring in their beings
They gallop like wild horses
Then gradually slowing to a trot
And eventually coming to a dead stop!
After a few moments, their bodies unfreeze
And matching their mental state
Peals of crazy laughter ring out from their throats
And resound in the air!
Then they fall again to earth
Where they lie!
Shattered! Naked! and Unhinged!
