I know it sometimes seems a pointless grind,
the soaring dreams of youth have all been dashed
and Fate has proved itself to be unkind.
You stretched your wings for flight, and then you crashed,
Life's burdens are laid heavy and unfair.
With deep'ning shadows tempering your joy,
your troubles often seem too much to bear.
It grieves me so, my darling girl and boy.
I worked my way through Hell towards the light
and found a well of Wisdom that has soothed
the hopeless, hurting heartache of the night
that fell on me when I was lost - confused.
Would I could share with you the truth evinced,
but my unsilvered tongue cannot convince.
